Appearance: Uniform, equipment and shoes are at State Standards. Uniform is clean, shoes are shined. Appearance is professional.
Pre-Game Responsibilities: Reviews communication with partner before game. Checks bats/helmets/equipment collectively with partner. Checks lineups, reviews ground rules and is in control of plate conference.
Stance (Plate Only): Has a solid base, mechanics and uses slot position when available. Maintains good head level and makes adjustments according to the catcher's position. Moves into stance at correct instance and locked in position until completion of pitch.
Positioning: Is in correct position for all calls. Knowledge of correct positions depending on each situation. Plate: Moves from behind plate and hustles to best position possible to make a call.
Mechanics: Safe/Out along with other mechanics are correct, sound and crisp. Includes physical and vocal mechanics. Plate: Accurately uses mask and indicator. Verbal mechanics are clear, easily understood and accurate.
Making Calls: (Base Only) Hustles to proper position to give the best angle for making each call.
Judgment: Makes accurate calls. Uses body and eyes correctly to give the best opportunity for a correct decision.
Strike Zone: (Plate Only) Has a good knowledge /definition of the strike zone and consistently enforces it.
Communication: Communicates on field responsibilities with partner as well as coaches and other players. Works with partner efficiently. Handles all situations comfortably and has a confident demeanor.
Rules Application: Implements and applies all applicable rules correctly without hesitation or assistance.
